Whereas table salt often contains toxic additives, pink Himalayan salt contains numerous health benefits and is one of the purest salts in the world!

A lot of people have come to label salt as “bad.” Table salt does often contain many additives and chemicals which can be toxic for the body. However, salt is actually essential for your body to function optimally! Pink Himalayan salt is an excellent alternative to table salt.

There are many Pink Himalayan salt benefits for the body, including improved digestion, adrenal and thyroid health, hormone health, and many more. Pink Himalayan salt benefits the body much more than table salt, because it is pure and free of additives. In addition, it contains 60+ beneficial minerals, whereas table salt goes through so much processing that most, if not all, of the minerals are lost.

Personally, I use pink Himalayan salt rather than table salt in all of my cooking and baking, because of its health benefits, and because I think it tastes a lot better than table salt. I like to have a pink Himalayan salt grinder for putting on some foods before I eat them. I also keep a container of fine grain pink Himalayan salt on hand to use for recipes and baking.

What is Pink Himalayan Salt?

Pink Himalayan salt comes from about 200 miles from the Himalayas in the Punjab region of Pakistan. 5,000 feet deep below the Himalayan Mountain Range, there are ancient sea beds containing this salt which is said to be over 99% pure, and free form modern environmental toxins. Genuine and high quality pink Himalayan salt is one of the purest salts in the world. Pink Himalayan salt can be variations of white, pink, and red. The color variation comes from its mineral content.

Pink Himalayan Salt Benefits for Health

Salt is a required substance for every cell in the human body. It is essential for healthy blood sugar, bone density, and circulatory health. Salt is lost through urine and perspiration, so it is important that we replenish it with pure forms of salt, such as pink Himalayan salt.

Pink Himalayan salt contains at least 60 trace minerals, as well as electrolytes. These nutrients are essential for many bodily functions, including:

  • Enzyme production and the ability to digest and use nutrients, including maintaining the proper stomach pH
  • A healthily functioning immune system
  • Adrenal and thyroid function, by reducing stress hormones such as cortisol
  • Hormone balance for men and women
  • A high functioning metabolism

Why is Pink Himalayan Salt Better than Table Salt?

Unfortunately, regular table salt typically contains additives, excessive amounts of potassium iodide, fluoride, anti-caking agents, and other toxic chemicals such as aluminum. Because these additives change the color of the salt, it is often then bleached to make it white. These toxic impurities can cause fluid imbalances in the body and can strain the body’s elimination systems.

Pink Himalayan salt is known to be one of the purest salts available, and it is free from all of these toxic additives. Table salt goes through so much processing that it loses most, if not all, beneficial minerals. Because of its purity, pink Himalayan salt has 60+ beneficial minerals! For these reasons, pink Himalayan salt benefits for health far exceed those of traditional table salt.

Recommended Pink Himalayan Salt Brands and Where to Buy Pink Himalayan Salt

I recommend the brand, HimalaSalt. HimalaSalt is committed to sustainable and fair-trade sourcing. Other Kinds of Beneficial Salts

Real Salt, Celtic Salt, and Himalayan Salt are all types of unrefined salt that share the same types of minerals and nutritional benefits, without the toxins in table salt. Some pink salt brands and articles will tell you that pink Himalayan salt has 84 minerals and the other kinds only have 60, but I’ve read that there is actually not support for this claim. Some sources suggest that all three are actually equally beneficial.

Two other popular unrefined salt brands are:
  1. Real Salt, which is mined from an ancient sea bed in Redmond, Utah, and is the cheapest of the three.
  2. Celtic Sea Salt, which is harvested off the shores of France.

Both of these companies are working to ensure they are using sustainable practices for the earth through their mining processes, and are keeping the salt pure.

I had no idea pink Himalayan salt had so many different benefits! I switched over a few years ago, just because I knew it was better than table salt, but I had no idea why. What a great, informative post!
