There are countless maca powder benefits for your health, and so many delicious ways to incorporate maca powder into foods you already eat!

Maca has been used as a natural remedy for thousands of years in the Andes Mountains region of Peru. Maca is actually a type of vegetable, similar to a turnip, that is ground into powder. There are numerous incredible maca powder benefits for your health!

Maca as an Adaptogen and Superfood

Have you heard of adaptogens before? It’s a pretty new term to me. Adaptogens are natural herbs and plants that help the body naturally adapt to stress. Maca is an adaptogen, which means including maca in your diet can help your body adjust healthily to daily sources of stress.

Read my post about adaptogens to learn more about how they work and the different types!

Maca is also a superfood. Superfoods are nutrient-rich foods that are full of vitamins and minerals, as well as other necessary nutrients for optimal health. Rich in antioxidants, maca can help the body protect its cells and fight off disease. Maca is also a good source of many essential vitamins and minerals, as well as protein and fiber.

People who consume it regularly report these health benefits of maca powder:

  • a natural mood and energy boost, without the jitters that caffeine can cause
  • improved memory and focus
  • improved hormone balance, including: relief for PMS and menopause symptoms, as well as increased libido and fertility

Where can you buy maca powder?

You can find maca powder in many health stores and chains such as Trader Joe’s. You can also find maca powder on Amazon. I recommend the Terrasoul Superfoods brand for maca that is a good price, as well as organic:

What’s the difference between gelatinized and raw maca powder?

You’ll probably notice that Terrasoul on Amazon sells both gelatinized and raw maca powder. According to The Maca Team,  gelatinized maca powder has had the starch removed through a high heat process for easier digestion, and is more concentrated than raw maca powder. However, the process of gelatinizing the maca can destroy enzymes and alter the nutrients, which may make it harder for your body to absorb and get the optimal maca powder benefits.

If you have a sensitive stomach or trouble digesting starch, you may want to go with the gelatinized maca powder. If not, I would go with the raw powder.

How much maca powder should I eat in one day?

Although you can’t “overdose” on maca, it is recommended that you start with a little maca and increase the amount over time. You can read more guidelines on maca powder dosage, but overall the recommendation is 1-3 teaspoons a day.

What are some easy ways I can eat maca powder every day?

Maca powder is extremely easy to incorporate into your daily diet! You can add it to foods that you probably already eat every day.
