This was a milestone week – we reached 100 followers on Pinterest! Up 23 from last week.
I never would’ve expected it to take 8 weeks to get there, but I’m just thankful we got there at all! In spite of our increasing following, my numbers on Pinterest Analytics have continued to steadily decline. I’m really not sure the reason for this, I’m still trying to figure it out.
I’ve been reading that Pinterest has been testing out a lot of changes, so maybe my declining numbers are a result of that. I’m trying not to be discouraged, because even though analytics are going down, our follower count is up, and it seems that overall more of the pins I pin are getting repinned.
I also wonder if not pinning as much from my home feed has anything to do with it. Is Pinterest offended that I’m not pinning what they choose for me as much?
This week we also did our first two posts on Instagram.
We are waiting until we have several posts to start trying to get our friends to follow our page. I spent several hours one day researching the best and most relevant hashtags to use. I read many articles on recommended hashtags and spent a lot of time looking at other bloggers’ Instagrams to see what hashtags they’re using.
My biggest question is, is it better to use hashtags that are super broad but get used a ton, or to use niche hashtags that aren’t used as much but are more specific? We’ll start out by using some of both and see what seems to work.
We have a phone call scheduled with Ryan’s blogger friends from Chasing Foxes for next week, so I’m excited to connect with them and learn as much as we can from their success! Also, we bought a template for our blog called Soledad! We largely chose it because it has a ton of customization options, and we love the homepage design functionality. So we’re very excited to get going on design! We’ve got a big learning curve ahead of us.
Next week we’ll be traveling to Indianapolis again. With that and the holiday on Monday I’m not sure I’ll be able to work as much as I’d like. But I do have hopes of continuing to post to Instagram and start on our site design! I’ve got to get back to writing more too! Kind of fell off the writing train the last couple of weeks.
