Week 4 Journal – One Month of Blogging

I’ve been a blogger for a month now!

This was a big week: we fully transitioned from Him Her Here There to Uncommonly Well. I love our new blog name and I’m feeling really excited about it!

I only wrote five new posts this week, all about all-natural green cleaners. Partly because I was feeling a little burnt out from writing lots of articles that aren’t live yet.

Editing Posts

Ryan made some suggested edits on my posts in Google Docs (where I write and store them). His biggest critiques were that I could be more personal (less newsy) and that I could make my posts more readable by using shorter paragraphs and more headings, italics, bolds, etc.

Though I was reluctant and it wasn’t all that fun, I went back through 30+ articles I’d written and edited them. It was pretty crazy (in a good way) seeing how much my writing style has already changed from the beginning! The editing process took way more time than I expected. We’ll edit them even more once we know more about design and what photos we’ll use, etc.

Pinterest

I spent more time on Pinterest this week than I ever have. I worked on our profile design a lot, experimenting with our photo, description, and titling. Also, I changed all my boards’ covers to go for a similar feel, which meant I gave all board covers white-ish backgrounds. It looks SO much better! We only got 5 or so new followers this week, but we get excited about each one!

Inspiration and Design

I also spent time this week compiling a cohesive list of my favorite blogs and what categories they cover. This way, whenever I need inspiration about a certain topic, I can reference this list! There were a lot of bloggers I followed on Instagram who I also found on Pinterest, and vice versa.

Now that we are settled on our blog’s name, Ryan reached out to a designer. He found her through a friend who is also a designer. We’re very excitedly waiting to hear back from her! She (or whatever designer we go with) will make our logo and give input on the design of our Wordpress site. I’m so eager to get that going!

I hope my hard work on Pinterest will start paying off. Next week I hope to finish editing the articles I’ve written, I hope we hear back from the designer, and I plan to start brainstorming more to increase our followings on other social media platforms.
