These paleo chocolate chip cookies are the perfect combination of soft and chewy, and are completely delicious!

Recently, Saturdays have become kind of my designated cooking and baking day. During the week I think forward to Saturday and dream about what I want to make. This week I was craving classic chocolate chip cookies, and so I decided that today I would develop my paleo chocolate chip cookies recipe!

Chocolate chip cookies are such a nostalgic treat for so many people. And it seems like every baker I know has their recipe for chocolate chip cookies that they claim can’t be beat.

I know if someone told me that they had a recipe for paleo, gluten-free, dairy-free chocolate chip cookies that was better than any other, I’d be skeptical. But that’s the honest truth with these!

Update: I’ve made these cookies for a lot of family friends since first developing this recipe, and I cannot exaggerate how in love with them everyone has become!

Do yourself (and your family) a favor, and give these a shot.

I love these cookies, and I can’t wait to share!

Ingredients for Paleo Chocolate Chip Cookies

One of the best things about this paleo chocolate chip cookies recipe is that it doesn’t require a lot of ingredients!

They’re made with almond flour and only sweetened with honey and the chocolate chips. If you’re a paleo eater you probably already have all the ingredients on hand!

If you don’t already eat paleo but you’re interested in trying it out, these are ingredients that you won’t regret having on hand, promise.

Here are a few specific ingredients I recommend:

I know for me, when I first started eating paleo it was hard for me to pay the extra for what I saw as pricey paleo baking ingredients. But the thing is, it’s the honest truth that quality ingredients make for quality foods, and quality foods make for a healthier body! It’s so worthwhile, in my opinion.

How to Make These Paleo Chocolate Chip Cookies

These paleo chocolate chip cookies are so easy to make!

All you have to do is first, whisk together the dry ingredients in one bowl. Add the wet ingredients in another bowl. Then, mix them together.

You’ll add the chocolate chips to the batter, then refrigerate the dough for 20 minutes. Finally, you get to make the dough into balls on the cookie sheet, pop them in the oven for 10-12 minutes, and they’re done!

Update 8/30/18: I updated the recipe to include 1/4 tsp of pink Himalayan salt instead of 1/2 tsp because a couple of my batches tasted a bit too salty.

These paleo chocolate chip cookies are the perfect combination of soft and chewy, and are completely delicious! They are gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, and refined sugar free, made with almond flour and a few basic ingredients, and are sweetened with honey!

Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American
Servings: 15 cookies
Ingredients
Dry:
  • 2 cups almond flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp pink Himalayan salt
Wet:
  • 1/4 cup raw honey
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg, room temperature
  • 2/3 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together all the dry ingredients (except the chocolate chips): almond flour, baking soda, and pink salt.

  2. In a small bowl, whisk together all the wet ingredients: honey, melted coconut oil, vanilla extract, and egg. Once combined, add the wet ingredients to the dry, and whisk them together.

  3. Stir in the chocolate chips, cover the bowl with a towel, and refrigerate the dough for 20 minutes.

  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F, and lightly spray a cookie sheet with coconut oil. When the dough is done chilling, form it into small balls and space them out about two inches from each other on the cookie sheet.

  5. Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes. Let the cookies set on the sheet to cool for 10 minutes before transferring them to a rack to cool completely. Enjoy!

They are DELICIOUS!!! I used almond meal because it’s what I had….so they were probably a little more grain-like than the original recipe…but sooooo good!!! And I’m not even paleo☺️ I like them best while they’re still warm.

Can you use something other than coconut oil, I can’t eat coconuts? Recipe sounds awesome. I’d love to try this recipe. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Debi, I have only made them with coconut oil, but you should be able to use melted butter, avocado oil, or another type of oil in its place and have still them turn out deliciously! I’d love to hear how they turn out if you decide to try them! 🙂

Yikes ! They seemed too salty to us.
Otherwise, a nice and easy prepare and texture.

Hi Dawn! I’m sorry to hear you found them too salty. Maybe it depends on the type of salt used, I’m not sure. I’m glad to know so I can see if I should tweak the recipe 🙂 So glad you enjoyed them otherwise!

Cassandra,
I used the pink Himalayan salt as you suggested in the recipe. Also used all other ingredients suggested.
Maybe the fact that we don’t use much salt in our Paleo diet, makes us sensitive to the taste.
I’ll be making them again and adjusting the salt measure.
Thanks for the recipe ! 😋

Do you think they would taste relatively the same without vanilla extract?

Reply
Cassandra September 3, 2018 - 12:09 am

Yes they will! In fact, I usually make them without vanilla extract now because it’s so expensive. I honestly don’t notice a difference.

Can u substitute coconut flour instead of almond flour?

Reply
Cassandra September 30, 2018 - 9:51 pm

Hi Mary, I wouldn’t recommend substituting coconut flour, because it’s much more dense than almond flour and bakes differently. But here’s a great paleo chocolate chip cookie recipe that uses coconut flour! 🙂 https://detoxinista.com/coconut-flour-chocolate-chip-cookies-grain-free/#wprm-recipe-container-22872

Can I use protein powder in these? If so how much?

Reply
Cassandra December 7, 2018 - 4:46 pm

Hi Jessica, I’m not familiar with using protein powder in baking, so I can’t really give you any recommendations there. Sorry about that! But if you do figure out a way to make them with it, let me know 🙂
