These minimalist Christmas decor DIYs are perfect for decorating your home beautifully, yet simply.
It’s December 12, and Ryan and I haven’t done a minute of Christmas decorating yet! Until a few days ago, it didn’t even feel time to decorate for Christmas.
We spent the last two weeks in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, enjoying 80 degree weather and sunshine! We did some Black Friday shopping online, but that was pretty much the only sign we experienced that the Christmas season was upon us until we got home.
Now that we’re back in the delightful 25 degrees of the Midwest, we’re fully enjoying the holiday season vibes! I’m just not convinced Christmas could exist in hot weather, or without the American Christmas classics we love so nostalgically playing in every store and restaurant.
All that being said, better late than never, I thoroughly enjoyed scouring blogland for these 15 beautiful minimalist Christmas decor DIYs. I hope they inspire and get you into a warm and fuzzy Christmasy mood as they have for me!

Festive Candle Holder
From Vienna Wedekind
This minimalist Christmas decor DIY is first because it’s my FAVORITE! So perfectly elegant + simple + festive. All you need to make this is a glass bottle, candle, knife (to make the candle fit in the bottleneck), water, and a sprig of evergreen.
Glass Christmas Ornaments with Greenery
From VTWONEN
Keeping with the glass and greenery trend, this is another super easy, yet so lovely, minimalist Christmas decor DIY to make. Glass ornaments and greenery are all you need. I love the look of the eucalyptus. You could put them on your Christmas tree, but I love even more how this blogger hangs them on strings from her ceiling! Head on over to her post and see what I’m talking about 😉 (Use Google Chrome to translate her post if you want to read the step-by-step instructions.)
Small Space Christmas Tree
From Kit and Forage
For anyone who doesn’t have the space, funds, or desire for an actual Christmas tree, this is a lovely minimalistic alternative! Attach a few branches to the wall, add ornaments, and there you have it.
Mini Wreath Garland
From The Merry Thought
This garland is surprisingly really simple to make, but looks so festive! The DIY instructs you to use floral wire for the mini wreaths, which you can buy inexpensively on Amazon.
Copper and Twig Wreath
From Erika Rax
This wreath looks really sophisticated, right? Well it totally is, but it’s way easier to make than it looks. I love how Erika uses the words “thingy” and “haphazardly” in her instructions, then suggests you go ice skating after you quickly put this together. No “skill” required here; just have fun with it.
Gold Triangle Garland
From Almost Makes Perfect
You’ll need four things: gold card stock paper, string, scotch tape, and scissors. Do yourself a favor and watch a Christmas movie while you cut those triangles out.
Branch with Ornaments
From The Lovely Drawer
You might already know I’m in love with tree branch DIYs because they add such a natural, earthy, pretty look to your home decor. This minimalist Christmas decor DIY doesn’t have step-by-step instructions, but I don’t think you need any. Glass bottle + branch + string + ornaments and you’re done. I love these small champagne colored ornaments from Amazon.
Rosemary Sprig Place Cards
From Spoon Fork Bacon
A beautiful minimalist Christmas decor idea for your Christmas dinner or any holiday parties, these place cards use rosemary sprigs and card stock. I imagine they smell really nice too!
Hanging Swags
From Gardenista
Here’s some inspiration for you to add Christmasy flair to your gallery wall. These “swags” are the festive bundles of Christmas tree scraps and pinecones, tied up with shimmery string, and attached to the wall. (I wasn’t familiar with this use of the word “swag” and it definitely made me giggle to myself a little.) Look at her post to see more photos of how she decorated with these little beauties.
Rope Light Strand
From A Merry Mishap
Two materials are required for this minimalist Christmas decor DIY: rope, and string lights. So simple yet so pretty, I love the look of the rope on a hook (above), but I also love the look of the rope lights in a pile on the floor!
Fresh Mini Christmas Trees
From Say Yes
This would be a really fun one to make with kids. If you get your Christmas tree from a tree lot, you can forage for tree scraps around the lot while you’re there and make these for free! These mini trees look adorable on mantels and bookcases.
Merry Pine Garland
From Homey Oh My
Amy from Homey Oh My shares that she sources her greenery for projects like this pine garland from Whole Foods. If you have enough artistic ability to shape wire into the letters for the word “MERRY,” the rest of the steps of this DIY garland will be a breeze.
Scandi-Chic Christmas Tree for Small Spaces
From West Elm Blog
I love the cozy look of this Christmas tree for small spaces! With a bucket to stand the tree on, a fuzzy blanket, basket, and small Christmas tree, you can easily replicate this look. I love this natural seagrass basket on Amazon, handwoven by female artisans in the south east tropics. It’s extremely versatile, so you’ll be able to find lots of ways to use it when it’s not the holiday season, too!
Simple Foliage Wreath
From Makers Society
The circular part of this minimalist DIY wreath is an embroidery hoop! With your hoop and foliage, you’ll need some pruning shears, green florist tape, fishing line, and yarn to hang your finished wreath on the wall.
Branch Stocking Display
From The Merry Thought
This is a perfect way to hang your stockings if you don’t have a mantel! If you love this idea, you might also want to check my post of 14 DIYs to make with tree branches.
