Rather than letting your flowers die, repurpose them into pressed flower decor for your home! These 7 DIYs will give you some beautiful ideas.
I hate throwing flowers away and so I typically dry them or leave them out until they are losing petals and starting to decay.
Recently, I learned about a way to preserve flowers’ beauty and reuse them – by pressing them! I got all excited about the beautiful things you can make with pressed flowers, so I decided to write a post about them.
Here is an instructional how-to on how to press flowers and 7 beautiful pressed flower decor DIYs you can make with them!

How to Press Flowers
Before you can make these DIY projects you have to press your flowers!
You can find guides on how to press flowers using many different methods – large books, a purchased flower press, making your own flower press, ironing, and even using a microwave! Personally, I think pressing them in large books or using an iron are the most practical options.
General guidelines:
- Make sure the flowers are dry when you begin.
- Some flowers press better than others. Included here are some recommendations for flowers that work well.
- Depending on the flowers, they may need to be pressed for a week to a month. Be careful checking on them because they are fragile in the process.
- Put the flowers face down on the paper to be pressed, because then they are less likely to be wrinkled or bent undesirably.
- Putting them between pieces of printer paper works just fine. Use tissue paper if you want to be fancy.
DIY Pressed Flower Decor Projects
Framed Pressed Flowers
From UO Blog
This is my favorite of these pressed flower decor crafts – the flowers look so pristine and I feel like it would be difficult to “mess up” because the flowers look beautiful no matter how you arrange them!
Pressed Flower Prints
From Craftberry Bush
All you need for this craft is some flowers (Lucy’s recommendations are pansies or violas), a hammer, and some cardstock or watercolor paper. These prints would be perfect for framing, making cards, or used as stationary.
Pressed Flower Coasters
From Brit + Co
The process for these is similar to the framed pressed flowers, but instead of a frame you use a special tape around the border to make them coasters!
Pressed Flower Wall Clock
From Free People Blog
With a clock, card stock, pliers, hot glue, scissors, and flowers you can easily make this pretty DIY clock!
Pressed Flower Framed Prints
From Free People Blog
This one is really easy – once you’ve pressed the flowers you get to be creative in choosing what types of paper to glue them to and whether to frame them. Then all you have to decide is how to arrange them.
I love this photo’s idea of clothes-pinning some prints on a string, framing others, and leaving some unframed too.
Pressed Flower Candles
From Free People Blog
With a block of beeswax, pressed flowers or herbs, and just a few other materials, create this beautiful candle! Beeswax has a light but lovely scent. Add essential oils if you want a more fragrant candle.
Pressed Flower iPhone Case
From Etsy Journal
A little more in-depth but still very doable, these iPhone cases are the most beautiful I’ve ever seen!
Next time you see some pretty wildflowers or have a bouquet that’s a few days old, use them to make something lastingly beautiful!
