As I learn more about the toxins in our everyday products, I’m trying to make the switch from mainstream toxic products to natural, non-toxic alternatives.
Cleaning and other household products are some of the most toxic items in our homes.
At my parents’ house, whenever one of our pets had an accident we pulled out RESOLVE Carpet Cleaner. Unfortunately, this product ranks as an F on the Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) scale of safety for cleaning products. (EWG is a widely-respected organization doing intensive research to help us rid our lives of toxins.)
This product, along with so many others, ranks as highly concerning for ingredients which can cause respiratory, developmental, endocrinal, reproductive, allergic, and organ issues, this product is also toxic to the environment.
Since discovering a product that commonplace can be so toxic, I’ve become very cautious about what household products I’m buying!
How I find Non-Toxic Cleaning Products
I use EWG’s Guide to Healthy Cleaning to research the toxicity levels of specific cleaning products. It gives each product a ranking between A-F to indicate its safety – A is the best, and F is the worst based on the product’s ingredients.
The problem is that oftentimes when I try a new product that is green and toxin-free, it doesn’t work nearly as well as the ones that are full of them! Anyone else had that experience?
So I set out to solve that problem by researching all the best toxin-free cleaning products according to EWG, and finding which of those are also the most effective according to reviews by people who have actually used them!
