In the past few years as I’ve learned more about the harmful toxins in our everyday products, and I’m making changes in products I use to eliminate as many of those toxins as possible in my life.
Many household products like cleaners and soaps are full of harmful toxins! I’ll show you an example. Based on “Eco” in the name, you would think Palmolive Eco+ Gel Dishwasher Detergent would be a safe product, right? I’d think so too, but unfortunately it’s quite the opposite.
Rating an F on the Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) scale of safety for cleaning products, this detergent ranks highly concerning for cancer-causing ingredients, ingredients highly damaging to the environment, and ingredients that can cause respiratory issues and allergies. (EWG is a widely-respected organization doing intensive research to help us rid our lives of toxins.)
If a product that’s supposed to be “Eco” is that toxic, we have some real reasons to be cautious about what cleaning and household products we buy!
I use EWG’s Guide to Healthy Cleaning to research the toxicity levels of specific cleaning products. It gives each product a ranking between A-F to indicate its safety – A is the best, and F is the worst based on the product’s ingredients.
The problem is that oftentimes when I try a new product that is free of toxins, it doesn’t work nearly as well as the ones that are full of them! Anyone else had that experience?
