As I’ve been learning more about the harmful toxins in our everyday products, I’m trying to switch out my mainstream (toxic) cleaning products for non-toxic cleaning products.
A common household brand and effective product, Clorox Disinfecting Bathroom Cleaner ranks as an F on the Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) scale of safety for cleaning products. (EWG is a widely-respected organization doing intensive research to help us rid our lives of toxins.)
Ranking highly concerning for ingredients which can cause respiratory, developmental, endocrinal, reproductive, nervous system, digestive, and organ issues, this product is also toxic to the environment.
I’m using this Clorox product as an example, but unfortunately many (if not most) mainstream cleaning products contain these kinds of toxins!
I use EWG’s Guide to Healthy Cleaning to research the toxicity levels of specific cleaning products. It gives each product a ranking between A-F to indicate its safety – A is the best, and F is the worst based on the product’s ingredients.
The problem is that oftentimes when I try new non-toxic cleaning products, they don’t work nearly as well as the ones that are full of them! Anyone else had that experience?
So I set out to solve that problem by researching all the best non-toxic cleaning products according to EWG, and finding which of those are also the most effective according to reviews by people who have actually used them!
