9 Healthy Herbal Teas You Need to Try

I used to be a coffee addict. Now I’m addicted to healthy herbal teas!

From the time I was in preschool I liked coffee!  My mom and I used to call our bonding time “coffee breaks”. We would read books and drink coffee – or sugar milk with a little bit of coffee in my case.

I still love coffee, but in more recent years my body hasn’t liked it so much. I’ve had some digestive issues and hormone imbalances, and coffee just doesn’t do nice things for either of those issues!

In the past few years I began drinking tea, specifically healthy herbal teas since they are naturally caffeine-free. And, thankfully, I have grown to love tea so much I can almost get by without missing coffee!

Herbal teas truly have SO many different health benefits, along with being super calming and cozy. I want to share 9 of my absolute favorite healthy herbal teas and their health benefits, with hopes that some of you will share your favorites too so we can all discover some new types!

Yogi Egyptian Licorice Healthy Herbal Teas

1. Yogi Organic Egyptian Licorice

Why I Love It | This has been my favorite of all healthy herbal teas for several years! Even if you don’t like licorice candy it’s totally still worth a try, because flavor is quite different from the candy. Licorice root is naturally spicy and sweet, so it’s a wonderful tea to drink when you crave sugar. I usually add a bit of almond milk for a creamier taste.

Health Benefits | Licorice root has been shown to soothe the stomach and aid digestion, respiration, and adrenal health.

Buy | You can find it in some grocery or health food stores, and on Amazon.

Harney & Sons Herbal Hot Cinnamon Spice Tea

2. Harney & Sons Herbal Hot Cinnamon Spice

Why I Love It | My mom introduced me to this tea! You’ve gotta really like cinnamon to like this one. If you do, you will love this tea! With very strong yet sweet flavors, this is a great tea to try if you want to give up coffee. It’s herbal and made with rooibos tea, but you can also find this brand and flavor of tea made with black tea in caffeinated or decaf form.

Health Benefits | Cinnamon is loaded with antioxidants, has anti-inflammatory properties, and may help prevent heart disease and cancer.

Buy | You can find it in some grocery or health food stores, and on Amazon.

Trader Joe's Organic Ginger Turmeric Healthy Herbal Teas

3. Trader Joe’s Organic Ginger Turmeric Herbal Tea

Why I Love It | This tea comes in at a close second to Egyptian Licorice as my favorite tea! If you live near Trader Joe’s, you are extremely lucky and you’ve got to go pick this one up! I currently live 3 hours from a Trader Joe’s so I stock up whenever I make a trip. Along with ginger and turmeric this tea has licorice root which gives the naturally sweet taste I love, and black pepper which helps your body absorb the beneficial elements of turmeric. It’s really delicious!

Health Benefits | Ginger is known to be a wonderful aid to digestion and has anti-inflammatory effects. Turmeric is also a powerful anti-inflammatory compound, and it increases the body’s antioxidant capacity.

Buy | I recommend buying directly from Trader Joe’s if possible because it’s less than $3 per box, but you can also find it on Amazon.

9 Delicious and Healthy Herbal Teas You Need to Know About

4. Fresh mint

Why I Love It | You can find about a hundred kinds of mint teas, and yeah, many of them are decently good and taste pretty much the same. I’ve always liked mint tea but my experience changed entirely when I ordered it in Amsterdam. Instead of bringing out a tea bag as I expected, they brought out a lovely tall clear glass of hot water with several sprigs of fresh mint inside! Let me tell you, tea bags do not compare. Try it out, especially if you can grow your own mint!

Health Benefits | Fresh mint is an extremely soothing herb which helps digestion, and can help with nausea and headaches, among many other things!

Buy | You can buy fresh mint at most grocery stores. If you feel inspired, buy yourself a mint plant!

Tazo Cocoa Mint Mate Herbal Tea

5. Tazo Cocoa Mint Maté

Why I Love It | This might be the most unique tasting one on my list – it grew on me the more I had it. It has a light chocolatey taste with spearmint and peppermint. It’s made with yerba maté, which is a South American tea rich in nutrients with a small amount of caffeine, though this tea is considered to be herbal.

Health Benefits | Yerba maté is rich in antioxidants and reputably enhances ability to focus, gives energy, and supports metabolism and digestion.

Buy | You can buy it at many mainstream grocery stores or on Amazon.

Bigelow Ginger Snappish Tea

6. Bigelow Ginger Snappish Herbal Tea

Why I Love It | I discovered this tea while visiting Ryan’s parents in Boise, Idaho, and I continued drinking it every day until we left. Less sophisticated but totally adorable, it’s actually a “holiday” tea, so it may be a bit more tricky to find in stores if it’s not Christmastime. When you do find it, you probably want to load up because you might join the ranks of its numerous avid fans. I love the combo of lemon and ginger, and it has a bit of licorice root in it to make it naturally sweet.

Health Benefits | This tea would be a great pick to soothe your stomach, aid your digestion, or just to make you feel nostalgic and warm up when it’s cold outside.

Buy | I’d recommend looking in stores around the holidays, but you can also find it on Amazon.

Traditional Medicinals Organic Throat Coat Herbal Tea

7. Traditional Medicinals Organic Throat Coat

Why I Love It | When I have a cold, a sore throat, or start losing my voice, this tea is my go-to. It’s incredibly soothing, calming, and effective in helping you feel better. It’s made with organic ingredients: slippery elm bark, licorice root (again, making it naturally a bit sweet), marshmallow root, and other spices.

Health Benefits | Slippery elm bark contains a substance which literally coats the throat and soothes it, and it soothes the digestive tract as well. Marshmallow root is soothing for colds and coughs, as well as for digestion.

Buy | You can find this tea in many grocery and health food stores, as well as on Amazon.

Tazo Passion Herbal Tea

8. Tazo Passion Herbal Tea

Why I Love It | This is my favorite of all these healthy herbal teas to drink iced. When brewed really strongly, it has a fruity and tangy flavor that I love without any sweetener. Free tip from a former barista: after brewing tea you want to ice, pour it on the end of a metal spoon and into the glass with ice. The metal spoon will absorb much of the heat so the ice melts less and you have a colder, less watery drink. Be warned, the spoon can get very hot so switch it out for another one if it gets too hot to hold on to!

Health Benefits | The main ingredient, hibiscus, tastes similar to cranberries. It has soothing properties and may help lower blood pressure.

Buy | You can find Tazo Passion tea in many grocery stores and on Amazon.

Traditional Medicinals Organic Chamomile Tea

9. Traditional Medicinals Organic Chamomile

Why I Love It | Probably the greatest tea to drink before bed, chamomile tea has a light, flowery taste that’s incredibly calming and tastes even better with some honey (in my opinion).

Health Benefits | Chamomile is known to help you fall asleep, calm anxiety, soothe cramps and digestive issues, among many other benefits.

Buy | There are many great brands of chamomile tea but I like Traditional Medicinals because the quality is great and the ingredients are organic. You can find it in many grocery and health stores, or on Amazon.

I’m always on the lookout for new healthy herbal teas to try, so please share your favorites in the comments!
